The minimum volume of a written translation is 0.5 pages. The prices for written translation are given per standard A4 page, plus VAT.

What languages do you mainly translate into?

The main translation languages are Russian, English, Finnish, German, Swedish, Polish, Latvian, Lithuanian, French, Spanish, Italian and Norwegian. We offer translations from the source language into Estonian and English as well as from Estonian and English into the target language.

For other languages (Portuguese, Italian, Turkish, Czech, Slovak, Japanese, Chinese, Arabic, Georgian, Dutch, Slovenian, etc.) or other language trends (for example, English-Danish, French-Russian, Spanish-English, etc.) ask for a quote.

What does the price of translating a written text depend on?

Written translation services include translation of the text and, if necessary and according to the purpose and use of the text, editing or proofreading and review of the translated text. The price of translating a written text depends on its volume. In the case of written translation, the volume is calculated based on the standard page of the translated text, i.e. the target language.

In Europe, a common standard page is 1,800 characters including spaces, or 30 lines, 60 characters per line.

If the text is on a computer, the text volume can be In Microsoft Word easily determined: Tools > Word Count > Characters with spaces and dividing this number by 1800 will give you the translation volume. If the text is Google Docs In a word processing program, you can check the number of words and characters in a similar way: Tools > Word Count.

If the text also requires additional layout or design, this service should be agreed upon separately in advance. This will be added to the final price. The price for layout/design is stated per A4 page.

Interpretation service

Interpretation is the oral transmission of a message in another language as reliably, naturally and fluently as possible, while also imitating the speaker's delivery, tone of voice and persuasiveness. There are 3 different types:

1. simultaneous interpretation – the interpreter, who is located in a special booth, listens to the presentation through headphones and translates it synchronously into a microphone gradually.
2. whispered interpretation – a form of simultaneous interpretation. The interpreter is next to the listener and translates the presentation to the listener in a quiet whisper.
3. Consecutive interpreting – the interpreter and the speaker speak alternately in front of the audience. When more than two languages are involved, this technique is rarely used due to time constraints.

Do you also offer interpretation?

Yes, Filoloog Translation Office also offers interpretation services starting at €60 (excl. VAT) per hour. Interpretation is listed in the price list for 60 minutes. Interpretation service means verbally conveying a message in another language as accurately, naturally and fluently as possible.

Do you offer notarized translation?

There is no longer a service such as a notarial translation in Estonia. Since 2020, this task has been transferred to sworn translators, who are the only ones in the country with the authority to make official translations. A sworn translator is obliged to confirm the substantive accuracy of the translated text.
To become a sworn translator, you must pass a sworn translator exam conducted by the Ministry of Justice . However, notaries still have the right to apostill documents if necessary.
