Translation and interpretation
Written translation is a text with the same meaning as the original text in another in language or in a character system. During the process of written translation, a text is translated from one language (from the source language) into another language (the target language), preserving the content, meaning, and style of the original text. It is a form of interlingual transfer of documents, books, websites, contracts, scientific articles, and other written materials.
Interpretation is a method of translation in which an interpreter transmits spoken messages from one language to another in real time. It is often used at international meetings, conferences, negotiations, courts, and other situations where speakers of different languages need to understand each other.
Translation of a written text differs from oral translation in that the translator has more time and opportunities to analyze the text, research terminology, and refine the final result.
Written translation
Written translation services convey the meaning of the original text in writing in the target language, while maintaining accuracy and context sensitivity. The service covers the translation of various texts and documents, from legal and medical documents to marketing materials and technical manuals. A professional written translation service ensures that the content and meaning of the text remain unchanged, while being adapted to the cultural context of the target language. Translators at Filoloog translation agency ensure that each translation is done professionally, taking into account the specifics and purpose of the text.
A well-done translation complies with the grammatical and stylistic rules of the target language. Translating a text requires great attention to linguistic accuracy in order to avoid possible misunderstandings or distortions of meaning. This is especially important when translating public documents, where linguistic and terminological accuracy play an important role. Document translation and apostille are required for official documents issued in Estonia (e.g. school diploma, registry extract, notarial power of attorney) that you wish to use abroad.
Free text translation using machine translation can be a quick solution, but it often does not guarantee grammatical correctness or context sensitivity. Free text translation through some translation programs can leave the text inaccurate and clumsy, especially for more complex or specialized documents.
Interpretation
Interpretation is the oral transmission of a message in another language as reliably, naturally and fluently as possible, while also imitating the speaker's delivery, tone of voice and persuasiveness. Interpretation is divided into three different types:
Consecutive interpreting – the speaker and the interpreter speak alternately in front of an audience. The interpreter first listens to a sentence or passage of the speaker’s speech and then delivers it in the other language. This is more commonly used in smaller meetings, interviews, or formal talks. When more than two languages are involved, this technique is rarely used due to time constraints.
Simultaneous interpretation – the interpreter translates while the speaker is speaking. This means that the oral translation is done without interrupting the speaker. This is often used, for example, at conferences where interpreters work in a sound booth and participants listen to the translation through headphones.
Whispered interpretation – a form of simultaneous interpretation where the translation takes place at the same time as the source text is presented, but the translation is not presented from a sound booth. Translator sits or stands next to or behind the person needing the interpretation and whispers the interpretation into their ear in a low voice. Whispered interpretation can usually only be done for a few people at a time, as the listeners must be in close proximity to the interpreter.
